Why is this event so important?

The NYS PPC is currently raising funds to send delegates to The Poor People's Moral Action Congress in DC this June where hundreds of activists from more than 40 states will unite to bring the demands of poor Americans back to national attention. We will raise our voices to ensure that the national dialogue returns to the moral center of who we are as a nation and democracy.

Throughout the 2016’s 25 presidential debates, there wasn’t a single question asked about poverty, systemic racism, the war economy, and ecological devastation. The Moral Action Congress will start the work of making sure the issues facing the 140 million poor people in this country are prominent in our national conversations leading up to 2020 and beyond.

The Poor People’s Moral Action Congress will:

-Release the Poor People’s Campaign Moral & Constitutional Budget, which assigns hard numbers to the economic and social benefits of implementing Campaign demands.

-Challenge 2020 candidates to listen to, and champion the demands of people impacted by economic exploitation, systemic racism, militarism, and the war economy, ecological devastation and a distorted moral narrative.

-Convene the first Poor People’s Campaign National Freedom School to train activists in fusion politics.
